Parts questions from a newbie

Post by bjm38 »

Hi all,

I went down to Millennium Motors in Manchester yesterday, the prep work on our car looks to be going well and we should have her within about two weeks or so. My first question is, are there any parts for a 1098cc Minor 1000 that are in short supply which I should worry about? I'm wondering if there are key parts (I'm thinking kingpin bits and the like) that I should source and maybe keep on hand. Also, what bits do most owners carry about with them in the event of breakdown? There are probably bits and bobs that the AA and the like routinely used to carry whereas now they probably only carry around a laptop!! It's a long time since I stuck my head under a bonnet to do anything other than check oil levels, but I'm more than willing to (re)learn.

TIA

Bernard

A good start would be to get a manual (available from the club) and a service kit from one of the major suppliers. Then spend a day servicing the car yourself. best to get familliar with the mechanics while the car is still working fine.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply - I won't be touching too much mechanical on the car for the first year or so since the garage is providing a warranty. It's more the idea of breaking down and watching a spotty tech work out where to stick his lead that worries me! :)
