Hi
This is a strange one. The fuel pump on my 63 saloon ticks away until it has primed itself and then stops! It pumps the occasional splutter of fuel. If you disconnect the feed from the tank it starts ticking again.
I have blown out the fuel lines to check they are clear and stripped and rebuilt the pump.
There is plenty of fuel in the tank.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. Its not working as it should.bmcecosse wrote:It's working as it should - what's the problem ?
If you remove the fuel pump outlet pipe it still doesnt pump as it should when it has no resistance. It should pump like mad when disconnected from the carb. Sorry i didnt make that clear in my first post.
I realize it would stop once the float bowl was full but it stops pumping once it has drawn fuel up as far as itself!
Many thanks

Did you clean the filter when you rebuilt the pump?

Hello Wells,
could you have replaced the discharge check valve upside down?

Its started working. I wonder if it was an air lock.
Many thanks

Sorry - I misinterpreted your first post.......... If it had an air lock (highly unlikely!) it would have ticked away like mad all the time ! The only thing that will stop it ticking (apart from faulty points etc) is pressure on the discharge side.
