I don't know that anyone else 'd call him a classic, but our other car is a Volvo 340 Vario, with which I'm much enamoured. At 21 years old it's got a little rust around one rear arch and one scabby bit of underseal which is my summer job to sort. It's only got 77k on the clock (of which 12k is ours), and it cost us £270.
It is probably the best car purchase I've ever made

And Patrick, the guy i bought it from was very careful that i wasn't a "banger racer" as he had a few offers from them. When he saw the Minor pick up i went in to view it he was willing to let me buy it!
Was once told that Volvo's weren't really rated by banger racers as they had crush zones even in the 70's.
They used to prefer heavy fords Granadas and cortina's. I wonder what they use now?
Had a volvo 340 years ago. Great car, but rolled around corners like a 2cv

I'm not sure, but i expect a 145 estate would crumple it up pretty good if its a "modern"!
Had a few parts arrive for it now, but still looking out for more!!

my dad had a mitsubishi space wagon from new and that is an l reg. says 1994 on the log book. the space wagon a bit like the volvo. loads of space and built like a tank. it did 120,000 miles on the original brakes and nothing went wrong
Volvos are still used alot! Easy to pull out with a hi ab and dont usually bust anything when they take a big hit! The granadas arent the main tool to use and there usually restored if there any good now! Mostly moneos and vectras are used for small 2 litre meets the odd volvo unlimited bangers mostly volvo 240-740s

We had two Volvos over time. an 'aaa 111 S' reg and a 'C 111 aaa' reg. 245 DL auto. Both very good. Am afraid the C reg went due to both fuel costs rising but worse, insurance costs rising out of proportion. We dieselised the fleet (of 1 !) then. The only Volvo I've been in since, has 63 passenger seats.
