Rear wing flange repair panel
Hi all, I've finally welded my way to the rear of my car and come across a possible problem! The previous owner has welded in a new flange for the rear wing, however he has welded the "lip" to the outside of the body! I'm thinking it should have gone inside. Has anyone welded in one of these parts? if so does the lip go outside or inside? Thanks in advance, Croft[frame]

Re: Rear wing flange repair panel
I'm about to carry out the same repair to both sides on my car,
I will be fitting them more or less the same as your's except I will joggle a seam around the remaining arch before fitting the repair flange's, I don't use seam welds for this type of repair prefering to use either spot or plug welds,
this should give an almost flush finish externally and will also be much easier to conceal afterwards,

The repair is correct, but as said a joggled lip would be better. I'd advise that this area is seam welded for strength along with plug welds every 1" or so. This is a critical section of the cars monocoque construction so needs to be strong.
