I just love this forum already and I've only been a member for a number of hours.

So much info on offer by real enthusiasts who are willing to share knowledge Much like the merc 190 forum im admin on

Forums like this are truly fantastic and the lifeblood to all us lovers of the 'older' cars.

I just know im going to enjoy being a part of this community

I currently drive 1988 190e 2.3-16. But helping my mate get his traveller back on the road after a long 8 year lay up has really given me the bug for Minors

I think i need to get myself a project and get another moggy back on the road.

A true car enthusiast then! You will be quite surprised at how nice a well sorted Minor is to drive.

I also have a Porsche 944S2 which is a fast quality German car like your Merc Cossie. I can get out of the 944 and drive one of my Minors and enjoy it just as much- very different but still an enjoyable car to drive.

Nice. I have had a couple of 944's myself too. An 84 2.5 LUX and the latest one was an 86 Turbo.

The Turbo was chipped, mapped and had a twin port wastegate fitted as well as a boost enhancer which brought the turbo in much sooner than standard. It was stupidly fast and would kick flames out the back I really do miss that car. But the Merc 2.3-16 more than makes up for it. Ultimate speed isn't the be all and end all.

Alfie, who's Morris im helping to do up is also a Porsche nut and has a very nice 87 Carerra 3.2 convertible

I took the Traveller for its first proper drive in 8 years today for a booked pre MOT checkover Very impressed indeed. The steering is so precise and sharp! The brakes were, err, a little bit scary at first But once i got used to them all was OK. It really does drive well for a car that hasn't turned a wheel in all those years.

All we need to sort now is the horn and a non working front indicator and it will be ready for an MOT.

One thing though, it has no seatbelts I take it this won't be a problem at the MOT due to the age of the car? (1964)

Excellent! I'm glad I'm not the only car enthusiast who owns a Porsche and Minors! Before I got my 944 S2 I also test drove 220 and 250bhp turbos and a modified 220 bhp turbo. The 250BHP turbo has a lot of lag (feels like along pause) but when it spools up it is a rocket. The S2 does not feel as fast although the acceleation is the same as a 220BHP turbo but I prefer its response in 5th gear on the motorway and the smoother power delivery feels more controllable as an everyday car, a very torquey motor is the 3.0L 16V S2. My 944 is currently off the road. I have a few more jobs to do on the Traveller and convertible and then I'll get the S2 back on the road. I'm jealous of your mate, the late 80's 3.2 carrera is one of my favourite 911's.

Glad you enjoyed the traveller, the key to keeping the steering good is regular greasing of the trunnions and keep the rack topped up with oil, and I prefer thinner tyres at the front for the feel.

I'm not sure what year the Minors need front seatbelts (rears are not required) all my Minors are very late models and they all require front belts. You can get seatbelts quite easily that fit the Minor.

There is no legal requirement to fit seat belts to a '64 car but I suggest that you have them fitted for your own safety and that of front passengers.

And if you have rear passengers - put belts in the back too, or they will lunge forward in the accident - and kill those in the front!
