Fitting Original Seats

Post by RobMoore »

I would like to remove the seats currently in Jethro they are fiesta seats and I much prefer the look of the originals, fortunately the originals also came with the car.
As this is my first classic and indeed moggy, would one of you kind owners be able to post up a picture of your original seat mounting.
I think I saw U shaped fitments in a box of spares that came with the car.

Don't have pics - but yes just simple flat brackets with a hump in the middle - they straddle the front crossbar of the seat and bolt down through holes in the floor. There is no rear fixing as standard - some MOT testers object strongly to this!

Thanks for the pic althuogh very small I think thats whats in my spares box.
Now the fiesta seats appear to be fixed to the floor in 4 places. I am concerned about open holes once they have been removed.
Should I use rubber gromets to fill or treat the area as a repair zone and use filler?

I would find rubber gromets that fit the holes rather than filling the holes with filler.

Ok now I have located the fixings
flat plate runded at the ends with 2 holes
U shaped pieces
bolts
Which order do these go?
I'm assuming plate with 2 holes on the floor above the carpet, then the seat then U plates?

Correct. You should have a selection of holes in the floor to choose from, depending on your leg length. The driver's seat should also be adjustable. There should be enough adjustment for tall or fairly short drivers with the seat on the rearmost holes. If you fit the passenger seat on the forward holes there should be enough knee room and a bit extra rear leg room. I have found the easiest way to fit them is to line up one bracket and hold everything in place with a phillips screwdriver through the holes at each end then remove one screwdriver and bolt the end down with a 1/4 Whit. spanner/socket.
An additonal modification is a plank of wood under the back of the drivers seat to raise the backrest angle.

Another way to fill the holes ,for the Fiesta seat mounts, is to simply replace the fixing bolts.Assuming of course that the bolts heads do not interfere with the original fixings you are going to use.
