Hi,
I'm completely rebuilding my traveller and have stripped the front suspension.
Both bottom trunnions have problems. The drivers side is frozen solid on the kingpin and the passengers side has a little bit of slop. Both top trunnions appear to be fine.
Given I'm doing a complete rebuild is just replacing the bottom trunnions ok, or should I spend the extra and replace the whole lot. The advantage of this would be I shouldn't have to do it again, and I the peace of mind from knowing it is all ok.
cheers

is just replaceing trunnions false economy ?

depends if the pins are worn,on inspection if the threads are sharp at the tips,or looking like they are not far off then they need to be changed.if the tips are flat then ok.If one is rusted solid then probably done for but you never know. Good luck with it

Just apply heat to the 'frozen' one - and then see how it goes. You have taken the cross pins out I suppose ? But overall - if you really don't want hassles with this again - then yes, fit new and be happy!

For piece of mind I would replace the whole assembly. It is embarrasing when the suspension collapses

Thanks all for you replies.
I think i will just replace the whole lot, after all the car is 40 years old.
and a new set should hopefully last another 40.
cheers

Pack the trunnions with grease before you assemble them and remember to give the front suspension a couple of squirts of grease every time you take the front wheels off.
