Convertible thread insert in front wooden header rail

Post by Budgie »

Hi all hope this query gets through as im not too good with pc,s and i,ve tried a few times to no avail anyhow i,m a returning member of some17 years lapsed from my last moggy i,ve had a two door saloon some 28 years ago followed by a four door saloon some 8 years later but always yearned for a genuine convertible but thought i,d never be able to afford one till last october so down to the point in question the drivers side thread where the butterfly bolt locates has stripped resulting in me having to improvise with a small leather dogs collar to keep the hood down/secure.Is there a threaded insert that can be bought to replace the stripped one on my Betsy,i,ve looked on the various suppliers, esm, etc but cannot seem to see the part for sale/available any tips/advice most gratfully received i know its a 5/16ths bsf so if all else fails i,ll have to utilise a relevant nut and revert back to my engineering days thanks

I've had a look at my hood frame and there is not a lot of meat to drill and fit an insert. I can only suggest tack welding a nut to the frame, either on the outside for ease or on the inside hidden by the wooden head rail. As you said - back to the engineering days.
Good luck
