clutch decontamination

Post by cadetchris »

my clutch plate is very oily, owing to an oil leak that is going to be fixed.

as the plate is only 6 month old and done about 2000 miles, i am slightly reluctant to replace it and i would very much like to know if their is a method of decontamination it?

i was thinking of washing it in lots of petrol and warming it up to evaporate it all off, thus in theory a clean clutch. are they any other methods? or should i just save me self the potential hassle and get another new one?

You can wash it and 'set in on fire' - but take care - and results unknown........... However i have decontaminated very lightly oiled brake shoes with that method.

lol, true, but in a controlled manner, it can be effective.

ill do my "controlled" burn in the middle of the lawn, well away from the new shed and primrose. my past experience with baths of petrol isnt to fantastic to say the least

In my case - I was using a spoonful of petrol - not too dangerous!
