Converting to spade drive oil pump
Having found that the original oil pump had 3 fixings, and the spade type one for the "wondercam" has but 2 diagonal, do I need to look for an adapter plate to mate the one with the other?
Re: Converting to spade drive oil pump
Change the pump for the pin drive variety then sell the spider drive componants on - They are rare as rocking horse pooh these days....

Re: Converting to spade drive oil pump
You must use a spade oil pump with MG cam - just drill & tap more fixing holes if you need them. If for a 1098 engine - you need the 'short shaft' pump - if for a 1275 you need the 'long shaft' pump. The spider pump was only ever available in long shaft form - for 1275 engines - yes yes, and the 970 and 1071 S engines !

Re: Converting to spade drive oil pump
How come in all the threads about the "wondercam", nothing has been said about drilling and tapping(did that!) or the different length pump shafts (think mine must be a long shaft as the cam won't go fully homebmcecosse wrote:You must use a spade oil pump with MG cam - just drill & tap more fixing holes if you need them. Re: Converting to spade drive oil pump
I have mentioned both items many times in the past - almost as often as the W brakes! Some pumps don't need any drilling /tapping - just depends which brand of pump. The long / short shaft pump is also a 'well known fact'. Long for long blocks (1275 and S) and short for short blocks (803/848/948/997/998/1098). As before - spider pumps were never made with short shaft.

I obviously missed the many mentions due to it not being one of your controversial subjectsbmcecosse wrote:I have mentioned both items many times in the past - almost as often as the W brakes!
