1100 miles trouble free motoring.

Post by SteveandKelly »

Just wanted to share this, Kelly and I have just got back from 2 weeks holiday in Cornwall and we totalled 1100 miles in Winston, he never missed a beat. Carried out a first parade every morning, never used a drop of oil and didn't even have to top up the radiator. On the journey down and back we averaged about 55 mph and he just thrummed along. The long drawn out gradients did slow us down a bit but that's to be expected from a 948cc engine !
That was our first trip of any significant distance and we now feel confident to go anywhere with him.Have to admit to some trepidation as we set off from home ( As the rather large box of spare parts in the back would testify) but our doubts about his abilities soon evaporated as we settled into the journey.
A real joy to drive! :D

Well done - 55 mpg is 'amazing' - considering modern small cars can't get to that figure!

Just goes to show that properly looked after they can provide sterling service :D .

It annoys me when you hear "Pleb" motorist say that old cars weren't reliable, when they should qualify the statement with "When I owned one". Only today I heard about someone with a W reg Zaffira, with 170000 on the clock, who in the time he has owned it, has never changed the oil (I'm not sure how long he has owned the car but I think it's over 5 years)  . Talk about coal in the bath mentality !!! This only came to light when the ECU failed (Which at £1000 to replace is worth more than the car) and the mechanic, who related the story to me, just happened to examine the dip stick :o . Apparently the owner said he hadn't changed the oil because the "Car was going OK". The owner doesn't now know what to do. I suggested, to the mechanic, "Try a season ticket".
