Came back from a short run this morning and found water dripping from the engine at the back around the water pump. Someone very kindly stopped to have a look at the engine and said it was probably a gasket gone in the heater, hopefully an easy thing to fix!
Also have been getting juddering when reversing, not all the time and mainly when reversing into the garage for some reason - could it be clutch or something amiss with gearbox?
One last thing, the man who looked at the engine this morning said I should have a rubber hose leading from the engine cover to the air filter, and as it's missing dirt will be getting into the engine. Is there a specific hose made for the job?
Sorry to ask so many questions at once!!

Water pump is at the front of engine - not back.......... Trace the leak with your hand. Judder - many possibles - oil on clutch/engine mounts/steady bar mount broken etc etc. And yes - there should be tube from rocker cover to air filter - any hose will do.

The heater doesn't have any gaskets, and it's inside the car so if it was leaking you'd get hot water on the floor/in your lap.Fozz wrote:Someone very kindly stopped to have a look at the engine and said it was probably a gasket gone in the heater, hopefully an easy thing to fix!
There should be one, but he seems to be confused about what it does - it's there to suck fumes from the engine to the air filter, not clean air into the engine. One last thing, the man who looked at the engine this morning said I should have a rubber hose leading from the engine cover to the air filter, and as it's missing dirt will be getting into the engine.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
