Driver's Seat Propped Up!

Afternoon all from a very hot sunny South Wales.

I just halled the Moggy out of the long grass brambles!

The driver's seat is propped up with a block of wood and 'd be pretty sure it's not going to get an MOT like that!

What is the usual method of supporting the seat or has someone fitted the incorrect seat?

It looks like to me that the seat is a correct one but the prevous driver needed to be more uprite when seated at the wheel. I tried to do the same on one occasion but found it better leaving out the wood.

Where in South Wales are you from? I am in Cwmbran. And you should find a few more on this site.

It is actually a quite common mod for people with short legs so they can reach the pedals - esp if the seat webbing is a bit saggy. All it does is raise the back of the seat up. The Minor never had the rear of the seats secured to the floor so it shouldn't be a prolem at MOT time although some testers do frown at the fact the seats are only bolted at the front.

I used to drive a Moggy police car back in 1972 ish, they used to remove the front passenger seat to make it easier to get prisoners in without hurting their heads ;)

I'm just down the road from Cwmbran in Bridgend - just 1 mile off J36.

I sold my Ariel Atom last week and it was collected this morning - hence me hauling the Moggy out of the brambles. It's not mine, belongs to my partner's son. He bought it with some romantic notion of restoring it but doesn't like to get oil under his nails

Gotta get the lights working, what's the other most common reason for failing a Moggy?

Had quite a chuckle this morning when I rang my insurance broker, told him I'd sold my Ariel Atom and wanted to change the cover to a ....... Moggy 1000

In my experience: Under-body rust, seized brake cylinders, and several times I've got an advisory for split steering rack gaiters (the reproduction ones don't last very long).

You should get a big FAT FAIL for a split steering rack gaiter! As Alex says - RUST is the big fail - then brakes.

Have a look at the floor under the carpet where the seat rests.
It isn't unknown for the floor to rust and split here.

I may have mis-remembered. I've had advisories for perished gaiters, and one year I had a split gaiter plus the car failed because it needed a bit of welding. I did once superglue a split gaiter back together the night before the test (and replaced it a few days later). Before the most recent test I had to replace both gaiters because they had split badly (again ).

My wife is short (4ft 11) and she needed wood under the seat feet and I secured it to the seat with jubilee clips so it didn't move!
