Hi all
Ive just been looking for some info on the national this year as I would like to attend and ive noticed a common theme among the suggestions offered and that they never get taken up as the website is a minority in the club.
Before I go any further I would like to state that I do enjoy the national and appreciate the hard work that goes into it but I think I may have thought of a suggestion that may please a few people.
when people arrive they are given a program, inside this could there be an extra loose sheet which could be handed in at rally control/ the exit/ a particular stand. this sheet could contain a few items such as
Voting in different classes (i.e. standard, 2 door, 4 door, modified etc)
favourite car of the show
(car identification could be done with a number on the rally pass which usually resides on the windscreen)
and possibly most importantly a "poll" or suggestion box for next years national. Im sure that with some careful thought someone could come up with 10 ideas and each "entrant" chooses 3, at the end of the vote the numbers are crunched and published in Minor matters and on here.
so the front would be something like
Best in class (please insert number placed in the windscreen) :
4 door ______
2 door ______
pickup ______
Van ______
Mildly modified ______
Custom ______
Extreme? ______
Best car of show (in your opinion) ______
and why __________________
Please hand this voting slip into rally control before 3Pm on Sunday
Award ceremony will be held at 4PM at Rally control
PTO FOR Event Voting
on the reverse:
What would you like to see at the national Rally 2011?
Please tick 3 boxes.

I know this might not get well recieved but my intentions are good. The nationals I have attended have been ok but if I wasnt already into morris minors then it wouldnt exactly drag me in!
for an idea of what some of the other scenes are doing to make things interesting and appeal to younger members.
I dont want to turn this into Chav central so I wouldn't advocate everything that the other clubs to but why cant we tweek what weve got and drag it Kicking and Screaming into the 90`s at least!

We may not have the motorsport herritage or the hoards of 18 year old lasses with clothes basically painted on but lets take what we have got and ramp it up some. if we dont then numbers will dwindle!
What about broadening the trader experiance? has anyone spoken to the local snap on dealer to see if he is interested in a stand? What about collaborating with the mini guys (not nessesarily the lairy side, but im sure they will have members looking for a slightly more sedate atmosphere). How about "unofficial"* convoys to the event. there is one next weekend starting at 9am on friday morning then literally thousands of cars convoying to the coast for a festival weekend.
As I said before I dont want to rustle feathers but I dont want to be the only person attending in 10 years.

Re: National suggestion
Some good ideas, although some are already in place.
There are already procedures in place for members to submit their suggestions for the National. This can be done via their branches or here (in the members only area), as happened prior to the last Branch Liaison meeting. In addition the recent Club Review included space for suggestions. The results are currently being collated and will be published in Minor Matters later in the year. Did you include your National suggestions with your response so that they can be considered?

Some suggestions are taken up, some are under consideration and others can't be taken up for various reasons. A number of suggestions were recently collated from members here and put forward during the Club Liaison Meeting on 21st March. Take a look at the responses in the members only forum.polo2k wrote:ive noticed a common theme among the suggestions offered and that they never get taken up as the website is a minority in the club.

This has been tried but there has been no interest (see responses from the Branch Liaison Meeting). Several other car clubs will be attending though - see details on the Home page. What about collaborating with the mini guys (not nessesarily the lairy side, but im sure they will have members looking for a slightly more sedate atmosphere).
There are always quite a few convoys heading to the National. Some are arranged via branches but others are arranged via this messageboard. I'm sure details will be posted here a bit nearer the time, or alternatively start a new thread to arrange your own convoy from SwindonHow about "unofficial"* convoys to the event.

Re: National suggestion
Some well thought out points, I like the idea of a voting slip to find out the 'people's favourite'.
I went to the national for the first time last year and had a great day out with the family. I like your youtube videos of other events, but the main improvement appears to be the backing tracks because I saw elements of most of the rest at our national. Have you thought about taking your ipod and a pair of earphones with you this year?
I hope the organisers of the national see your post and take on the ideas, but if not, they are not going far wrong in my opinion.

Re: National suggestion
Louise, have many/any of the suggestions from the past 5 years been taken on board via the new Liason meetings.
Ash, basics, get these right and the rallies will be a much better place, toilets and showers are the top concern for nearly everyone, and we are still waiting for this to achieve a consistent or acceptable level. I'm 'sure' however that these concerns will not surface again at this years show.
Some good ideas though, I wish you luck in what you are trying to achieve
