Wolseley 1500. What bits worth saving?

Post by RobThomas »

I've been offered a W1500 and wondered which bits are worth keeping. Runs but hasn't moved far in the last few years. No MOT etc

So....wheels are standard Minor, brakes are "gold dust", rear axle is useable, rear shocks are different,........can anyone elaborate or fill in the gaps?

Not restorable as a complete vehicle?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

If you spent £5000 on it you might get £3000 for it.

A bit too rusty and has been standing for a long time. Wings, door bottoms etc all gone. If I get 24 hrs to strip bits off before Mr Crushy recycles it, what else is worth taking off?

My thoughts exactly! Rusty wing bottoms and doors hardly sounds terminal. better to save a rare classic like that than rob it for its parts and crush it.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

All the front suspension along with the 'gold' brakes! Rear axle complete - engine and box (could put in Minor - or simply sell) battery/horn/lights - maybe the seats? Much more comfy than Minor seats! Just the brakes and the rear axle make it worth ~ £ 250!

Does anyone want it to restore rather than me having it for parts?

LOL Jonothan!

A member of the East Kent club has a Wolseley 1500 as well as his 1000 Traveller and he really likes it. They are very nice looking cars and by all accounts (another member had one for a while) pleasant cars to drive and own.

However, I have seen Minors that even I would not have attempted to restore, so it is possible for a car to rust beyond saving- could you put some pictures up Rob?

Just buy aftermarket discs and suspension kits, pass the car onto a Wolesley enthusiast and bingo best of both worlds, infact better than that , you will be employing folk too, keeping the economy turning. Go on you, you know its for the best

That's the thing, none of the Wolseley enthusiasts want it. For an extra £500 you can have a good one with an MOT.

Just break it! But save badges/lights/instruments etc - esp the light-up grille ! I'm sure they will sell ok.
