My step-son is 17 in a few months and looking to learn to drive. What have any of you had to pay for insurance on a Minor - on a low mileage policy probably. Was thinking of looking for a tatty saloon for him to cherish before throwing it in a ditch (rather than letting him near my pickup).

well first year 1098cc standard tpf&f was 606.90 fully comp was 900 which is really good for someone my age

now second year they didnt do no claims but with a 1275, disk brakes, alloys lcb and water heated inlet manif its 920 fully comp still cheaper than all my m8s

Found my youngest a £100 renault clio (was pretty good runner basic version) with £1000 excess £800 premium. Guess who paid up!!

my friend has a 54 plate corsa 1.2 baught the car for 3500 insurance fully comp £2700 !!!!

I first got my Minor when I was 17 and third party was around £450 (completely standard car). I'm now 22 and fully comp is around the same price. As a comparison my daily driver is an Audi A4 1.8 SE and that is £900 fully comp as I didn't acumulate any no claims bonus on my classic car policy so it's as if I'm 17 again . Just got to pluck up the courage to ask what the insurance will be on a 1.6 K series fully modded Minor , or I could just leave out that part .

Hi Simon,
When I was 17 I insured my 1098 TPF+T, with Footman James and the MGOC discount, for about £450. I'm now 23 and it is £280 fully comp, having not made a claim. Hoping its not going to go up too much when I put a 1275 in it!
Definitely a lot cheaper insurance than your typical first car, plus way more street cred (sort of!)

I've turned 18, but had my car for nearly a year now. My insurance (FJ) is £535 tpf&t limited 3000miles with a standard 1098 (Apart from radio etc)

My insurance was £600 as soon as I passed my test last year with Footman James, that was TPFT, as my only car, parked outside, with unlimited mileage. Just renewed it last month and it has gone down to £426. I'm 19 now by the way.

Daughter's 1.4 Clio (2002) cost her NOTHING to insure - though it costs me £500pa to occasionally use it to fill up at the local garage.

She thinks the 'E' on the fuel gauge stands for 'Enough'
