Distributor Cap Problems

Post by stephenpolhill »

Hi there. After inspecting a small problem we took the distributor cap off and pushed the sprung metal bit in that contacts with the rotor arm. The problem is it didn't come out and is stuck. We have tried knocking it out but it's still in. I connected it back up and the car ran fine but Dad has said it might be sparking across the gap which will corrode the rotor over time.
Has anyone got ideas how to get the metal bit back out?
I can attach a picture if needed.
Thanks
Steve

Just J-j-j-jiggle it a bit.

It is on a spring which keeps it against the rotor. f it is stuck you could try some silicon spray and jiggle it with a fine screwdriver - it should pop out

It should be a little carbon (NOT metal!!) brush - held by the tiny spring. I can't understand how the engine runs with it 'pushed in'. Either fiddle it out - or fit another cap.

No me neither. But we've ordered another one anyway. I don't suppose you have a picture of how it is supposed to be. I can't find any anywhere.
