Gasless MIG Welders

Post by shymoggie »

Hi all,

Has anyone tried these ? Are they okay to use ? I have the chance of a clarke 80amp one for about £120... or a 100amp opne for another £20 and my old one has died a death..... Over to the experts !!

Thanks,

Jim

Not as good as the original gas types. I have not tried one personally but I have spoken to those who have and they are poor. Yes, they do work but it's not as easy to do a good job as with the gas type.

If you do decide to get it, then let us know how you get on. Personally I would not bother. I would (and did) get a gas type.

A brand new 90 amp gas type one is £140 inc VAT from Machine Mart.

The one I use (150TE Turbo) is £211 now from Machine Mart:

You could probably get away with the 90amp, but if you want the extra power for welding thick stuff (like the clutch pedal shaft etc). Then you need the extra power for good penetration which is needed for joints on thick stuff under load.

My mig came with a roll of gaslees wire and i was not as good, in that I had trouble getting the same quality of finish i could achieve with gas.

They do however have there place, such as in windy conditions. But for what its worth I would go for the gas every time.

Cheers,
Matt
