gearbox

Post by jothina »

having just removed my prop to replace the gearbox tail oilseal i've found that the shaft itself can be wiggled about a bit, i would have thought this would be held securly in place by a bearing, anyway if my suspisions are correct how easy or hard is it to replace the bearing and could it cause it to jump out of 4th gear occasionaly
thanks

It's not too hard to renew the tail bearing - but it's not easy either - certainly not in the car - and the bearing then needs to be reamed to the correct size...... And no - it won't be the cause of jumping out of gear. I'm afraid that will be wear and tear inside the box - time to start looking for a replacement............
