It looks to have had plenty of work done on it and is in good order BUT... its a conversion rather than an original tourer, although the listing mentions it has been professionally coinverted with all necessary strengthening and the correct header etc. i wondered whether anyone had any advice re this and whether it would affect insurance etc...
My Convertible was a 2 dr in it's past life. So long as the work has been done to a high standard the only difference is in the price - a "chopped" saloon doesn't cost as much as a genuine tourer/convertible. My car was converted in the 1980's by a previous owner professionally. Go and inspect the car before you buy though.
What would be a good price... i know thats like asking the length of a peice of string but a guestimate would help, im interested in the one i posted from ebay but looks slightly pricey?
Also who do you insure through with your convertible?
I have a "Collector" policy as we have a few with Footman James under the Club scheme. I was lucky and picked my car up on ebay for under £1,000 but it had no suspension fitted and needed a new roof frame, hood and hood bag, so anything under £1,700 in good condition and needing no welding with a bit of MOT left is a good start. Do inspect everything!!! Get in the back and gentally "jump" up and down. If the door gaps open up - walk away.
the price seems to high
i have not long ago sold mine wich took me 4 years to do yes it was once a saloon
the log book has to be changed mine had to be inspected by vosa and passed
i sold it in jan for 1200 only needed finishing off oh well
The link wouldn't work at first for me. Now I see which car you're looking at! I've been watching that one too - not to buy though! The V5C should already have been changed, but just ask to see documentation when looking at the car.
I wouldn't change the V5 - the DVLA have been tightening up on changes recently and 'hanging on' to the documents. Just use it and enjoy - it's hardly important whether it says Saloon or Convertible - it's a CAR!
I think too much is made of the relative merits of tourer conversions vs original tourers. There is no reason why a conversion can not be just as good as an original. Lets face it, the majority of Minors on the road now have had structural parts repaired or replaced. The condition of the actual car in question is far more relevant because what makes a real difference, in my experience, is the standard of replacement parts used and, more importantly, the quality of the workmanship.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Ive been on to the guy and he says he will notify of the change to Convertible when he sends of the V5, then i guess id get all the hassle of vosa wanting to check it etc. Anyhow i was hoping hed do a swap/px with my modern car as i wont be able to sell my car in enough time but hes not interested
Ive been bitten by the moggy tourer bug now so gonna either have to wait till i sell my car or hope one of you loverly people might be interested in an exchange my 2006 (06) Citroen C4 1.6 SX Auto values at around £5000 which should get me a well restored Minor Tourer... so in the vain hope that you would want to swap for a modern car please let me know...
regaliaqueen wrote:Suggest you advertise you modern in the Cars for Sale section with a few photos. We have sold quite a few non Minor cars on here
Thanks have done so
MorrisDan wrote:Hi,
Im a newbie and i am looking for a Minor Tourer in restored condition to finance this im selling my 2006 06 Citroen C4 1.6 SX Auto in Red. Its currently on ebay here @ £4700 :
Ok ive now got a dilemma... do i go for a fully restored Convertible with uprated engine, disc brakes etc like willies in the for sale section or do i go for a 55 Split Screen which is more original??? its been driving me mad over the last few days.... having said that both of these cars could be gone before my car sells on ebay!
I guess im asking mod cons or originality? sorry so many questions but i guess thats what a forum is for
anyhow here the 55 Splitsrceen im currently looking at:
It depends what you want to do with the car.A Splitscreen it ideal for attending rallies, Sunday afternoon driving, pottering, but if fitted with the original engine i.e. 803cc takes it's time doing so
An upgraded car will usually offer more modern seats, safety belts, disc brakes, upgraded engine, which are more suitable for keeping up with today's traffic or if you intend to do longer journeys. The choice is yours........
If you do buy a converted convertible, make sure it says "convertible" on the V5, then with a bit of luck you will have no problems. And just tell everyone you drive a convertible. They are 99.99% the same as original convertibles if done properly so there is no need for the nightmare of the BIVA test, loose lips sink ships, etc. Please bear in mind that DVLA bureacrats read our forums looking to pounce.
