Done the compression test today, heres what we got:
No.1 130
No.2 135
No.3 140
No.4 140
Put a bit of oil in the first two cylinders and tried again and got 140, so not a great difference.
Does this seem a bit low ? Im sure its not a low compression van engine as I fitted this engine about 8 or 9 years ago and I think it came from a traveller. Would the engine no. give any clues?

The number would help, no knowing if the engine in the traveller was the original.
If it was originally a post office van there could be a restrictor plate on the carb/manifold joint, assuming the original was refitted, not the traveller one.

These are a bit low - but at least they are all similar! If it's not burning oil - laying a smoke screen - I would leave well alone. It may be that gauge reads low - would need to compare it's readings on another car.
Thanks for that, I think the gauge is good as Tim used it on his car and it gave good readings.
Ill have a look at the points, valve gaps and perhaps the ignition timing to make sure all is well and then if its still sluggish up the hills Ill look at reconning one of the spare engines. ( will need to pick peoples brains from time to time on that one!)
