Headlamp Peaks
Is there an art to taking off the headlamp rims? Every time I do it it seems like it happens a different way each time, sometimes they pop off, sometimes they unscrew, I need to put on some new headlamp peaks and would appreciate any advice that makes this easier.

Re: Headlamp Peaks
Headlamp peaks = danger to pedestrians! I really don't know why these dangerous sharp objects sticking out the front are allowed. In my view - they also look extremely stupid!

Ah, well, I guess your viewpoint isn't in any doubt then!
Each to their own though, assuming I was going to put them on and decide for myself whether I liked them or NOT, would that then influence your decision as to advising me on how to put them on in the first place.

It's been 'discussed' many times before- sorry if I came over a bit strong - but I really hate these things........ Naff in the extreme.... I believe they just hook in under the rims.

Hi Neil, this link might be useful: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... ilit=peaks
My previous Minor had them and I found them a real pain to fit every time I needed to change a headlamp so got rid of them in the end. It's just a matter of fiddling around with them until you get a decent fit and try fitting the outer retaining ring top end first. Good luck - I hope you've got a lot of patience!

Re: Headlamp Peaks
My wife likes them (she bought them) so who am I to differ. But they are a bit of a pain to fit deep breaths and patience. They do as has been already said just fit under the ring.
Anyone who has recently done at least 3 round with Joe Calzaghe is at liberty to contact her regarding the matter - just dont mention me

Re: Headlamp Peaks
Well... I removed two fitted to my mini following a large and deep gouge taken out of my thumb when cleaning the headlights.
The metal was literally razor sharp.
I will not be fitting these on any of my cars.

Re: Headlamp Peaks
I didn't want to start WWIII, sorry guys, my little kiddies wanted them, we have rolled edges, and I've done some close measuring, the over riders for the bumper stick out further than the peaks, they seem quite flimsy, and bend remarkably easily.
What's nice about this forum, is we don't all agree, and if nothing else it's thought provoking, I would defend to the last the rights of bmcecosse and others to voice that hatred of them, (even though you're wrong ...ha ha lol) we have a luxury of choice, and at least I made a 5 yr old and a 7 yr old love my car even more!!
Come on, group hug and solidarity amongst us moggy lovers.

If I was an MOT Inspector - I would fail a car with these things - for 'sharp edges' !

Re: Headlamp Peaks
On a side note I wander how safe the sun visors would be to a ped if they came over the bonnet, or the bonnet handle, or a grill slat, or a wing mirror.
I think ill have to stop running people over in my minor, I might hurt them if i'm not careful ;) (unless I removed all the things listed then I can carry on to my hearts content
)
If anyone can be bothered having the final word on this matter im sure its covered in the SVA manual and if the edges are indeed razor sharp then I think we need to vote with our feet, if you want one then find someone who can supply a rolled edge. I would hate to see a show affected because a member of the public gets hurt.

My wing mirrors are spring loaded - in fact at speed (i'm not saying how MUCH speed!) they bend back and kind of streamline themselves - enough that I can't see what (if anything!) is behind me.....

Re: Headlamp Peaks
You really should not travel faster than 30mph or your going to kill a pedestrian if you were unfotunate enough to hit onebmcecosse wrote:My wing mirrors are spring loaded - in fact at speed (i'm not saying how MUCH speed!) they bend back and kind of streamline themselves - enough that I can't see what (if anything!) is behind me.....

Re: Headlamp Peaks
Pedestrians beware! But with my far superior Wolseley brakes - I should be able to stop in time if a pedestrian is foolish enough to get in the way!!

Re: Headlamp Peaks
Well I broke a nail taking a hub cap off, lets ban them to
