Hi folks
The bulb for the ignition warning lamp for MM is a Lucas no 970. Can someone tell me where I can buy one of these? The bulb is 2.5 V 5W although I have seen it listed as 2.5 V 0.5W. which is correct? Is there an easy modification to allow a 12 v bulb to be fitted?
Thanks, Clive.

The correct bulb is a screw fit 2.5V. I have checked mine, which worked before I took it out! The bulb is stamped in Amps as are all my other torch bulbs and appears to be 0.5A.
The ignition light appears to be fed by 2 live wires, a white from the ignition switch and a yellow from the control box, both on to the same terminal. The unit has a very delicate fine wire coiled around it which provides a resistance. It is therefore necessary to use the correct bulb in order for the light to work. I expect that someone will explain it better than I can.
I found out the hard way when I rewired the car and the coil unravelled itself and I had to buy a new ignition light.

Re: Ignition warning lamp MM
So really, we are looking at somewhere which sells torch bulbs. A 2.5V .5 amp bulb would be 1.25 watts. I thought that 5 watts was high for this type of lamp, but that is what is quoted in section N.25 page N.20 of the British Leyland Workshop Manual. I thought there would be a ballast resistor somewhere, but it is not clear on the wiring diagram.
Thanks, Clive.

The bulb could be .5watt in the manual, maybe a misprint.
The resistor is formed by the wire coiled around the lamp body. Dont take it out to check it, just take my word for it
