clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
The clap hand wiper motor on my convertible has finally died..
I would like to replace it with a 2 speed wiper but being cheap i do not want to buy the kit as i think I can buy the individual parts cheaper.
having done this on a 1098 moggy i had to go through the pain of modifying the drive wheel..
According to Owen Burton for the clap hand cars you do not need to do this as they are readily available with the correct arc but he does not say what the sources cars are, and of course the days of looking in scrap yards for suitable donors is not possible..
so my question is, does any one know of a suitable motor so I can get one of ebay?

I don't think it matters if clap-hand or not - in the old days the Triumph 2000 motor was supposedly the one to have. But very possibly a Mini motor will be fine - although you would need to make up a different mounting for it. What 'angle' is the wheel in your motor ?

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
the mounting will not be a problem..
the clap hand is 100 degree, the later 1098 is 150 degree.
i do not know if that helps?

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
Roy you were correct the 2000 / 2500 does have a sweep of 100 as does the mk4 spitfire.
With the spitfire motor you need to turn the park wheel by 180 degree otherwise your wipers will park at the wrong end of the sweep
.
the mini motor whilst being the same body as do all other bmc cars it has a 110 degree wheel ( as far as i can tell )

Hi Charlie,
If you convert your car to two-speed do you want to sell me your 100 degree gear from the old unit, if it is not that part that has expired?
Sorry to be a vulture

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
er.. i hoped you were not going to ask.. I would have offered but i put it in the bin as it was the motor that failed not the drive but it was an earlier motor than yours so it would probably not have been possible to swap the wheels..
have you thought about going down the two speed route your self?
this is a motor you would need..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/triumph-wiper-mot ... 500wt_1182
you then either then need a wiper switch
or
use a light switch and a relay (i got mine from maplins )
I currently have mine wired up to work as a single speed until I get the switch..
I then made a plate up to mount it on using a "landrover" wiper fixing strap ( which is the same as others BMC cars just cheaper)..

to give this..[frame]

That's a very neat solution to the challenge - well done.

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
Now hang on a moment. I'm not bashing the PMing process, but there may be other people who were watching this post with interest who would like to know the correct degree. This is the third time this week (figuratively) a solution I've wanted has been PMed rather than just posted...surely the degrees can't be secret?

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
we are not keeping anything from you honest..
If you look in the wanted section you can see that dave was after a 100 degree wiper motor.. Taupe had a look in his shed and found one, i am assuming Taupe then pm'd the price and payment details.
So the correct degree for clap hand is 100 degree the later minors with the cross over sweep pattern is 150 degree, i hope that answers your question..
I can not comment on other pm'd responses maybe the writer was wishing to be critical of a trader, which is something you can not do in the open forum.

Re: clap hand 2 speed replacement motor source
The PM from Taupe WAS to arrange price and give me his contact number; and my response was possibly clumsily worded, he checked a number of motors and one of the number had a gear of the 'correct degrees'; ie a 100 degree gear. The others were all later, 150 degree motors; the 'wrong degrees'....
Hope this clarifies the mystery

Hahaha, no worries, everyone. I'm sorry. I just got confused for a moment -- it happens all the time!
