Head gasket went.....

..so while the head is off i relapped the valves fitted new seals etc. While the exhaust valves were out i noticed that the valve seats in the head were inserts, would these be unleaded inserts possibly? (this wasn't the head that was on when the gasket went by the way)

The bores were full up with water..thought that it would have seaped down passed the rings? The water dosent seem to have gone into the sump, the oil on the dip stick was ok..Haven't got round to dropping the oil yet, away for 2 weeks tomorrow so cant finish till then

were the bores full with water before or after the head came off

If there are inserts - then yes that would be an 'unleaded' head. I hope you removed ALL the water and flushed it well with oil - before leaving it for two weeks!

Not sure if full before removal of the head. and yes removed water etc..had to have the afternoon off to get that done before i went....cant put it back together till i get back

Did you drain off the water before undoing the head nuts ??

ah right, sorry in my tired state when i posted this i didnt explain things too well It was a random after thought about the water in the bores...I did crack the head nuts, then reialised i hadnt drained the engine, hense water in the bores. Was just a random tired thought that i would have thought the water would have passed throuh the rings into the sump being alot thinner than oil instead of staying full.

Should have stopped at the insert question LOL
