found something on the floor ..

Post by xpress »

hi there,

i found a bit of rubber that looks egg shaped, but a bit thinner at the end of the side, and on the other side, a flat edge, and looked rusty on that side of the rubber. is it off my morris or is it just some rubbish i have found on the tarmac?

lol.

Could be one of your front upper bump stops?

damn it's that. how did that fall off? will i need that for the car to be roadsafe/mot? can i get that back on? the holes on either side are not there on the one i found. does it stop the car from crashing into the body when going over a bump?

What usually happens is that the rubber stop comes away from the metal backing plate. If you look on your car the plate will still be attached - it happens with age. I dont know of anyway of fixing it, you'll have to buy a new bump stop.

Whatever you choose to do - you absolutely MUST have bump stops both front and rear, and rebound stops at the front.

If you have as many road humps in your area as I have then bump stop rubbers are essential.
If you buy a new one remember that they are handed.

It will permit the suspension to overtravel with possible damage to dampers and/or springs. And it will smash the inner wings on the front suspension - not a great idea.
