Rear Seat Alternatives

Post by Alex'n'Ane »

I am looking at fitting some nice comfy leather seats, have looked at the saab 9000 but any leather seats really. Am happy to make up frames if needed for them. But what i was wondering was what seats, if any, either fit(which i doubt), or can be altered etc. to fit the back?
Thanks

For the back seats you need to find something roughly the same size then strip the foam and trim off them and fit to your original Minor frame. Metro, Honda Civic, Rover 200/400 etc have all been used in the past....

I've found that rear seats tend to go cheaper in breakers than fronts, less demand. As above, if you get the rear seats with the fronts, you can 'skin' them and fit the new skin over the Minor seat. Since many seats are wider than Minors, if you get leather you can look at unpicking the stitching where the armrest/middle seat is, removing some of the centre and re sewing to pull the seat inwards.

If you get a common colour like black, it's easier to use different seats back and front and still get them to match.

Bear in mind there'll be less room in the back once you fit larger front seats (Eg Saab) so the back seats & it'll be harder to get in the back (with a 2 door) so they will be less popular & used less often.
