Stupid boy missed the obvious

Post by southerly95 »

Just finished putting an unleaded head on wifey's Moggy - it wouldn't start, not a peep. Checked low and high tension circuits which read 12.4v on both sides with points open, all HT leads on tight, condenser new last year, petrol coming through ok, pump not a prob. Checked cylinder pressures, 3 cyl's at 160 lbs, no. 3 a bit lower but not serious. Checked points and plugs correctly adjusted and clean. Still dead! Took plugs out to check for sparks - all nice fat blue sparks. Getting worried now - had I stuffed a rag in the (new) manifold to keep swarf out? Tried compressed air up exhaust pipe as getting desparate - no blockages. Re-checked plug leads - looked ok. 2nd thoughts tho' - looked at daughters Traveller to check that HT leads aligned with right plugs and bingo! I had swapped 1 with 2 and 3 with 4! Running perfectly now - I had missed the (bl) obvious through tiredness and panic :o
