ID these grille badges?

Post by MMaurice52 »

The two grill badges on my MM came with the car from England. I've wondered about the "AA" badge and assume the MM Registry badge has a link to MMOC???

I'm not sure about the Morris Minor Registry, but the AA is the Automobile Association, kind of the equivalent of the AAA. There's a wikipedia page about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Automobile_Association

Somewhere around I've got an AA Key (for an AA emergency call box), and this is the old Viva parked in front of a traditional AA callbox up in the Lake District (very apt, given the number of times the AA had to come and rescue the benighted object).

I've got a Key and a traditional Badge! The key I have in the car in case of emergencies :o I am a modern-day member due to a battery failure away from home a few years ago... Just need the Morris now ..

I was looking through the garage yesterday and came across two of the old AA badges with ID numbers on.They came up a real treat with a bit of WD40 and polish. My mates mother had them for years in her old tool bag. The thing that made me smile :D is that on one of the badges it says "property of the AA New Coventry St London W1, this badge MUST be returned when membership ceases.

I wonder if the badge was the 'authority to provide service' rather than any paperwork. Otherwise, I can't see why they would be stamped with numbers. The more modern square design was for the member to buy for display purposes on the vehicle, no numbers on those.. :)

You can tell a lot from the badge number. The badge pictured was originally issued between 1956 and 1967 for a motorbike.
