Rear door latch mechanism removal

Post by rcharman »

Can somebody explain to me how to remove the rear door latch mechanism. The rear door is totally stripped of all other hardware except for this assembly, tried twisting it and levering it too no avail. The manual states that it should come out of one of the openings in the door, tried them all.

Don't want to damage the mechanism. :(

Have you taken the window top off? The channel the glass runs in retains the lock.

As I quoted before, the door has everything removed (bare door shell) except the door latch assembly.

Still haven't managed to get the mechanism out, I don't want to damage it. Surely when the Morris Minor 1000 saloon was manufactured they assembled this mechanism without having to bend it to get it in the door.

well with the front doors it really is a case of wiggling it about you will find that it suddenly sort of pops out and going back is just the same.. you do not need to force anything.. no doubt there is a proper way of doing but i have never found it..

Have you tried putting the handle on and winding up or down?
It makes a big difference to the shape of the thing so should help.
I agree that no bending should be needed.

Hi MarkyB, it's the door latch assembly that I want to remove, not the window regulator. The door is totally stripped of all other hardware, tried wiggling and jiggling it with no sign of it coming out without damaging it. Guess I will just leave it in the door and cover it while the restoration is in progress.
