Tappet adjustment

Post by traveller83 »

I understand 'in theory' how to adjust the tappets, but would somebody be able to clarify the order of the valve numbers from front (by radiator) to rear of the engine, as the info I have would suggest they are not simply 1-8... :-?

I think I understnad the 1 in 9 rule for adjustment, but could someone also clafiry how a valve being open and shut corresponds with the agle of the rocker gear...

I know how to adjust using the guage, but it's just a case of which one, and what position it should be in!

HELP! Any advice (very) welcome... Thanks

I think I've sorted it - I found a useful link on the internet...

A quick reply in case the link didn't clarify everything.
When the rockers are level, the valves are closed.
Number 1 is closest to the radiator, number 8 furthest away.
The feeler gauge should be a nice sliding fit in the gap, shouldn't need any force to get it in, but there shouldn't be any play once it is in.

I find this easier to do with the spark plugs out.
