Minorless!
Sad news folks - our poor old 4-door failed the MOT in a fairly spectacular way - a huge amount of welding needed. Far more than I could afford! Sadly had to let it go to a Manchester based restorer, who will give it a new lease of life it deserves. Ahh well - 4 1/2 years of blood, sweat, tears, fun and gaining knowledge! I'll just have to start saving up for a decent one.

that is very sad news indeed, I have been there myself once before my self. Glad to hear that you are going to be saving up for another one though.

Re: Minorless!
Oh, thats just too unfortunate, sorry to hear it. I haven't got one yet but am looking and am thinking that really, for ownership to be a reasonable success story, I would have to sink into it a similar value to buying a decent second-hand modern vehicle. I'm not sure that the phrase 'Cheap Motoring' includes the capital purchase.

Re: Minorless!
Best advice I can give is to forget (well almost!) about the condition of the mechanicals, as they are easily fixed. Solid underneath and bodywork are far more important!
I'm just off to collect a decent Peugeot 205 diesel - 60+ mpg! At least it should allow cheap motoring while I save for the next Morris.
Finally, thanks to all on here who over the years have given such excellent advice!
Best wishes,
Dom.

Re: Minorless!
Couldn't have needed all THAT much welding then! But glad to see it's got a new lease of life.........

Re: Minorless!
Looks substantially better that the one Ive been lying under all afternoon. Best of luck with the restoration
Re: Minorless!
I had a glimpse of the MOT failure report, all the usual suspects - sills and chassis hangers. I saw the car when it was on the ramps after the welding had been done but before the Waxoyl went on, everything LOOKED solid. The garage has done a fair amount of what I suspect is largely cosmetic work on the body which will most likely deteriorate fairly quickly.bmcecosse wrote:Couldn't have needed all THAT much welding then! Well, the piggy bank took a fair old hit when I bought her - I just hope nothing serious develops for a while. The car has a 12-month warranty which should protect me mechanically while I pick up the ropes. In the meantime, I hope to enrol on a classic car restoration course,

Re: Minorless!
Sorry Dominic. Gutting news. I know from my 1st Morris. mine went to a good restorer who came along to a local show 3 weeks ago with it back on the road.I think he wanted to see if i would swap it back for my morris panda he restored. NO CHANCE.
Good luck with finding another one.
