Andrew just changing the oil would not cause the engine to burn oil. Tell us more about your 'engine flush'

I've flushed a b.old 1.5D. It was Wynns add-to-existing oil before a brief run to circulate and draining. Seemed really only to be of petroleum naptha/paraffin. I had something else from Comma that I put in the Peugeot on the same basis, once only in ten years. I started to think about something a long time ago where someone suggested just adding a cup of paraffin to the oil, run for a short while and drain. It might work as well! After all, we clean components in it. Or Diesel fuel. Seeing as that can get in a sump anyway (air-cooled Listers) such you can smell it on the dipstick, the oil level rises and it doesn't catch fire, these might shift enough 'sludge'. Thoughts!?

Has the engine flush possibly breached the rubber valve stem seals?

Thats the snag, of course. It only needs a chemical in it that attacks oil seals and similar. What does it say on the package?

its not over full
i think its from the engine flush clearing years of crap from round the bearings ect.
i used the wynns, put it in with the oil run for 15 mins (not reving it) and dumped the oil.
the oil i used is 20w50.
its running fine got 50 milesto the gallon on a 100mile trip the other month.
will it do any damage as it is???
or could it possible be the head gasket??

Big mistake to put any kind of 'flush' in an old engine. It will indeed have released all the nice gunk that was sealing up your pistons and rings - now it's smoking/using oil and you are faced with a rebuild.

Check your compressions and monitor your oil consumption. As long as you are not laying a smoke trail you should be OK.
