Piston Rings

Post by billlobban »

I've been helping a mate with his 1098 engine rebuild. He bought a set of pistons from BM which have space for 2 oil control rings (1 below the gudgeon pin and 1 above) and 3 compression rings however BM only supplied 1 set of oil control rings. Is this OK?

In the past I never fitted the lower set of rings. Actually, I machined that part of the piston off to reduce weight on my high revving Mini engines.

This one is being built as per standard (+020) and my mate is, unfortunately, not interested in boosting the output

Can only suggest you ask BM. Or, fit the old rings off the old pistons assuming they too were +20?

No such luck first rebore from standard Unfortunately although I get on really well with the guys at BM and buy most of my own parts from them I'm not convinced about the level of technical expertise.
