Videoing my restoration

Hi every body,

I'm just starting the restoration and modification of my Minor. I am intending to film a sort of mogumentary (moggy documentary) for the benefit of anyone else who may choose a morris minor as their first restoration. I've put the first test piece of footage on my blog:

I would be interested to hear what people think. This first bit may seem quite patronising, but it is leading towards how to do resin infusion in your own garage (fortunately composite materials is something i know quite a bit about)

Weldone, a very brave young man putting yourself on film . I remember being interviewed by Tiff Needel on Top Gear some time back, and being shocked at my monotone speech and being ridiculed by the family for rubbing my hands together, little did they realise it was just above freezing and I was trying not to shiver.
So as a first video presentation very good as you come over to be a 'nice chap'. Possibly a resume of your experiences and skills which you will take into this resto would be interesting and allow us to get to know you better.

Well done, not bad for a film crew and presenter x1. you've kept the camera moves and zoom to an absolute minimum, this helps to make it very viewable. Looking forward to future episodes.

Looks good.
My only criticism would be of blogspot or maybe the video format, there is no way to resize or full-screen the video and it is quite small and will be hard to see any detailed bits.

Well done for putting your head above the parapet and putting your efforts in the public domain. I for one will be watching with interest what you are up to but i would be ready for harry enfield types saying 'you dont wanna do that, you wanna do this.' because as you know, there are 1001 ways of doing a job, most of which are equally effective but everybody has their favorite tried and tested method and your method may not be theirs.
I am far from qualified to comment on your cinemagraphic style but i would agree that a full screen facility would be good and possibly, for longer shots, a button hole microphone.

thanks all for your positive comments .I will be putting the finished episode on youtube tomorrow where you can see it in fullscreen. i did have a button hole mike but i cant find it unfortunatley, but it might be something i'll invest in before the end. As far as a resume of my skills, to be honest I know sweet F A about working on car bodywork or suspension , but I have done a lot of boat building in fibreglass, I worked as a marine engineer for a while as well which means it is nice to be working on an engine which does not automatically try to corrode itself under normal use. Apart from that I have studied mechanical engineering, driven the car for a year (half of which was spent sorting out little niggles ), read lots of books and am an avid tinkerer.
I only wish I had started filming from the very beginning.

For anyone who is interested, i will be putting the final series (when it's all finished) onto DVD which will be available for about £4 (the price of a blank DVD + p&p)

Are you going to film everything? if so your resto will indeed take so much longer, maybe it would be more frugal to film the really intersting parts in detail leaving the rest to take the form of snippets to enable you to prgress with your resto within your desired timeframe. I will be paying regular visits to see how you progress non the less

No I'm Not filming everything. After all, the prep on every panel will be the same. From now on unless its something extremely technical, i.e. porting the head or resin infusion, I will only show highlights and difficult stuff from now on. I also thought as a potential warning to other people i may put a cost meter at the bottom of the screen, as that is something overly enthusiastic people don't get warned about, for me this project has been 1 and 1/2 years of planning before i started, so i have a fairly good idea of what it should cost to do.

Finally the second episode. I've ended up doing a lot of other things,such as putting proper Lighting and electricity in my workshop. and starting making the fibreglass doors (the next episode) as the work is moving faster than the filming.

I apologise that this episode is a bit boring, but there wasn't really a whole lot interesting to film. it does include some essential tools and books though.
