Spark Plugs

Post by Courthouse/Tom »

Hello, just servicing my 1970,1098cc,Minor.Has always been a poor starter from cold(6/7 attempst),but fine when hot.Distibutor cap/leads/rotar arm,all look fine, fairly new But points are pitted, but not burnt,i'm going to replace. The query is regards my sparking plugs, they are Denso W20EPR-U,are they specified/suitable for my car.Could they be part of my cold starting problem ??.
Thanks,Tom. :D[frame]Image[/frame]

Don't see any reason why they would be. They are the standard plug (manufacturer equivalent) for a Minor....

Try a nice set of Champions, N9Y for your engine.

Never heard of Denso, where do they come from?
Are you pulling to choke out too much, not enough? Play around with different settings until you find a position that suits your car.

Methinks if they were made by Toyota he wouldn't be able to stop the engine, once he got it started.

Denso is to Toyota, like Visteon is to Ford and Delphi is to General Motors... they are their parts making arm that they have either floated separately or have sold for cash. You won't see it so much in Halfords, but if you bought an official Toyota/Ford/GM/JLR electrical accessory, it probably will have Denso on it.

Try checking the tappet gaps, I was surprised what a difference having them adjusted properly made to starting mine.
