that roof chopped one is sold, according to rods 'n' sods, so you will have to look elsewhere, doesn't mean you should chop pedro though! dunno who got it, but if i was closer i would have jumped at it! whoever got it has got a good start for a cheap project. wonder if its anyone on here?

yeah i emailed seller on ebay and its sold :(
im still going to have a chat with the DVLA office.
So everything is depending on what they say, i know i am capable of the roof chop but its about the insurance and the Q plate query, would be nice to have a chat with some one that has done a chop and got it insured on the road.

and josh looks like i will be keeping it as that other one is sold.

been in touch with THE-ACE and they said what im wanting to do will result in a Q plate, however even if i dont do the roof chop i will still be issued a Q plate stupid 8 point scoring system! i dont get how other people have upgraded loads of stuff on their car and havnt got a Q plate. :-?
If i transfer it off onto retention before starting any modifications does this mean i could put it back on after, when i have finished my modifications?

Nope - Once a car has a "Q" reg it has to stay for life....

None that I can think of - It is also likely to put your insurance up (regardless of any mods)

if you say that ur wheels fit onto minor hub then you might want to change the pcd on the ford axel as this will be diffrent,

Hahaha, sorry, rossrox! Looks like you're having some trouble! I do wish I could help you, but the axle stuff isn't my forte -- then again, I've been told my Mog's axle is all wrong, so I may learn soon! Wish you luck, and know that we're all here for you!

you could redrill the holes but it has to be very presise, the minor pcd is 101.68 and ford is 108.00 so its a bit diffrent. or use adaptor plates but these will make the wheels stick out further.

marcusthemoose wrote:sorry, but i'm wih josh and the others on this one. do not chop the car- it would be a waste. i would love to do major modifications like this (without the alloys) but you've got to be sensible- i would only do this to a car on the verge of scrapping, that way you save it from death and then you have an excuse, and most people are happy. there have been many more restos done from cars much worse than this- keep it as it is!
I have to agree with the above comment and previous ones. That car looks far too nice to ruin by chopping the roof and modifying it. The thought of the nightmare BIVA test (£450, after paying £50 for an MOT)- and which the car may not even pass, the dreaded "Q" plate, expensive insurance, loss of historic vehicle status and having to pay tax should be enough to put anyone off.

You say you love Minors, great, then might I suggest restoring and running the car as a standard original car. Minors are much better kept as they were designed as they were brilliant cars then and now. Enjoy the Minor for what it is!

Might I also suggest if you want a car with a lower roof, a sporty Toyota 4AGE engine and fancy alloy wheels that you buy one that has all these features as standard. A 1980's Toyota MR2 has all this and one of these will handle a lot better than a modified Minor. No need to change the brakes or suspension or struggle to find a strong enough axle as the MR2 has all these as standard.

What a two car garage that would be- sports car and classic. This approach works for me, because as well as my Minors (kept standard), I have a 1990 Porsche 944 S2. This means there is no need to try to turn the Minor into a fast car if you have one that was designed for performance to begin with!
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
