Pedro, my 1970 morris minor (MODIFIED)

hey all, i bought the car about october 2009 and it was registered in 1970, i bought pedro for just under £1300 hoping it wouldnt have much rust, however i was wrong! I will be doing a lot of work to this car, including engine swap to a tuned toyota 4age, remapped ecu and turbo or supercharger... which??? i dont know, yet!!!, rear telescopic shocks, radius arm kit and front coil over system, alloys, escort mk2 rs2000 rear axle, new brakes allround (ford fitment), and a few more surprises , i am considering getting it acid dipped at JLH to get a complete clean shell, and then my paint work will be... lets say 'magical' ;)

I had to cut the rear wings off as the bolts were truely rusted together and were rounding off when i tried to undo them, ps i soaked them in wd-40 to "lubricate" the bolts but it didnt do anything.

i have bought 2 fibreglass rear wings widend by 2 inches and my DOTZ touge alloys.

I agree. The car has remained as it is for 40 years, it would be a shame to turn it into the antithesis of what a Minor is! Once you start hacking around with the bodywork is ceases to be a Minor - it becomes an entirely different car made out of (some) Minor bits. Also, you may well run into problems with MOTing it and end up with a Q plate, as already discussed recently on this forum. I'm expecting to get flamed off here now....

Good luck with the project, be nice to know which car/cars gave you the inspiration. I agree with the guys about the roof chop... it won't be easy and I'd ask questions about the Q plate possibility. This will then make it difficult to sell and costly to insure. But it is your car and you are free to do with with what you want.

But saying that, enjoy doing what you are doing and keep us updated. There are plenty of modded Minor fans on here and it's good to get the youngsters on board to keep the Minor visible.

This sounds a great project,but i would do it like Johnny Cash,one piece at a time,(you can look him up on wiki. )
I have my car for about 18 years and it is on it's third rebuild.

You might end up your car in pieces and have run out of mojo and just want to get rid of it.
Also if you do it in stages you get the fun of driving it and finding out what mods work and what does not alot sooner than having a garage queen for the next ten years.(i know,i've been there).
But it's your call.

im attempting to make it slightly more sporty, so it may just be chopped 2 inches or 3 instead of four.

what kind of wheels are these DOTZ TOUGE alloys can i ask

These except mine have a green pinstripe which will match my paint scheme of green and black and four bolting holes. they are around an inch bigger than normal moggy wheels height wise and about half a wheel wider which will be fine once i have new axle but will cause some slight problems on fronts all shall be sorted though.

they fit on the rear but require a spacer on the front

sorry, but i'm wih josh and the others on this one. do not chop the car- it would be a waste. i would love to do major modifications like this (without the alloys) but you've got to be sensible- i would only do this to a car on the verge of scrapping, that way you save it from death and then you have an excuse, and most people are happy. there have been many more restos done from cars much worse than this- keep it as it is!

I understand where your all coming from but as i have said this is my project car, i just want it to play around with helping me learn skills and pass my engineering exams for college, after this i will possibly be getting another moggy but give it a full restoration. i shall be visiting my local dvla office to have a chat with them about all of the 'legal' stuff.

It virtually ends the life of the car, and is then really only of interest to the owner until they get bored with it, or get to an age where they decide it wasn't such a good idea after all. Remember, your car was already 23 years old when you were born - you'd be destroying a piece of history.

Actually, why not contact the seller of that already chopped Minor? You would probably get it for a bargain price as he obviously couldn't sell it. And it's the same age as the one you are planning to chop.

damn!!! i dont even need to think about it!!! i would buy that right away if i had somewhere to keep it, i only have a single garage and pedro is sat in there. such a shame!
