Oh dear -sounds v nasty. If the engine has been run with no oil circulating.......... I'm afraid I don't give much hope for the crankshaft bearings - or the piston rings.

ok, got the car back this afternoon. Apparently when the sump was taken off the oil pump was in 2 pieces. Looks like the sump hit something which fractured the oil pick up and when the bolt holding the clutch cable to the pedal broke, the force of the sudden clutch release probably made it worse and fail.

luckly no sign of damage anywhere else in the engine, its running just as good now as before! :D

pic of old and new oil pump, mechanic said he had not seen anything like it![frame]Image[/frame]

Strangest thing ever! Did the sump show any sign of such damage? Hard to imagine it could 'spring back' without showing signs. You're a very lucky chappy if the engine is ok after running with no oil!

the sump wouldnt go back on after the oil pump was fitted, that was when we realised why it had broken. took a hammer to get it back in shape for fitting. i was sure a rebuild was on the cards, but it seems to be ok. will keep a close eye on it over the next couple of weeks.

if it is i'm gona save for a pair of fast road cams
