Sounds like two different faults - the rear light is almost certainly a bad earth connection at the light. The IGN light - is it a dynamo or an alternator ? Neither fault would be caused by the MOT garage - so be glad (very glad!) it passed - and don't anger them by suggesting they have caused the problems!

its a alternator,i checked all lights before the mot all worked as they should. they said the dip didnt work on near side, so it was them that played with the wireing. if the alternator is at fault does the belt need tightening? thanks for the help

Was probably just a bad connection at the dip headlight - at least they fixed it/passed it for MOT - they could (should?) have failed it! Your problem now is with a rear light ? Sounds like ALL the connections on the wiring throughout the car need cleaning/dosing with WD40.. Now - to the glowing red light - yes, could just need belt tightening - certainly worth a try, or it could be needing a new set of brushes in the alternator.

found the problem, it was a broken bullet in the lighting conections, these were all replaced when i had the brake lights done. the garage must have tugged so hard that they pulled the wires out of the soldered bullets. i wont be going there again

I think you are being a bit hard on that garage! They gave you an MOT pass !! And the alternator problem - is it still there ?
