I'm starting to make sense of the old rusted out valance, I'll have to study this old guy a bit more, it could show me how this all fits together.[frame]Image[/frame]

th rear valence and cab panel will determine the postition of the floor panel

also out rubber between bottom rear panel and chassis

what do you mean Dennis, the bottom rear panel at the back of the cab has a rubber insulation between it and the chassis where they bolt together?

the rear inner valence
put rubber or simialr packing between the panel and chassis, bitumen damp proof is a good material

The rear end onf the floor sits on the inner valence and the outer valnce top goes over the edge of the floor - where the floor is joggled at the edge. Then you dont have to bend up the little tab on the end of the floor box section.
I expect you've sussed it now anyway :) but hope it helps.

I hope Ive sussed it and not cocked it up, I've plug welded the inner and outer valance panels together at the top, there seems to be no other surface area that touches between the two.

First of all I liberally daubed the inner surfaces with etch primer, primer and then waxoil.[frame]Image[/frame]

As per advice from Dennis, I made some rubber gaskets to fit between the chassis and the valence mounting points.
The waxoil needs another coat.

That top part of the valance is visible with the tailgate down, so its sprayed in filler primer cos its gotta be smooth.[frame]Image[/frame]

the rearmost edges resting on the rear valance, with it all colour coded like this it all the differing panels stand out.
As I understand it, that grey edge has to slot under the yellow valance top.

I'm keen on trying to save as much of the original relic pickup as possible, this rear number plate lamp from the rusted out valance looks savable, even though there probably are new one's available, I'm keen to keep some of it original as possible.[frame]Image[/frame]

Meanwhile the welding continues with the side panel. This is the worse of the two. but its coming along. just two areas needing cutting out and welding. The tip of the wheelarch at the rear and the rear light area. Then its ready for stripping and filling. I want to try experimenting with lead filling, but thats another story for later...

I'm sorry to say that the number plate light pictured is NOT an original fitment to the pick up. Yours should mount inside the rear valance. :wink:

Oh, is that so. I need to visit a few vintage vehicle shows this year and look over a few original pickups and learn from them. I'm rebuilding a lot of this blind, The original relic must have had a few local unofficial modifications in its working life to keep it on the farm. So, the original lamps were inside the valance? (That I've welded up)

you can still put the original type in its held on by 2 screws into quick fasteners
and then the plastic lens then screws to the lamp unit

old stock not available anymore but esm used to do some good repro ones

you will get all the info you need on here about originality, and even if you did see one at a car show would you know what was original or not

ask on here for any help

phew, thanks Dennis, thats a relief, thought I was going to have to take it all apart to get the lamp in for a moment. There is a cut out under the back of the valance for just such a fitting that you describe. At least I didn't waste any time cleaning up the incorrect lamp from the old relic.[frame]Image[/frame]

Here's a pic of a Post Office van. The floor is painted black, and hopefully it shows how the stepped edge of the floor tucks under the rear valence. It gives a flush surface to the load area. Hope it helps :)
