just a wee update, just fitted shinny new pistons and rings i got from Bryan Gosling, fitted like a glove and now the engine turns wonderfully, still a little stiff, but owing to brand new pistons, rings and gudgeon pins, i presume this is normal. just need to pop the sump back on and the head + connect up the other little bits and then "IN THEORY" it should start. will be nice to get back in my every day car after 5 weeks. then my attention will shift back to my Austin.

success!!!!!

we have ignition and the engine spluttered into life and behold it was running.

however,

the exhaust problem of it not mating up to the manifold properly has reared its ugly head, even with a flexible exhaust pipe section on, the top of the pipe manages to sit on one side of the manifold and leave quite a big gap at the other side.

Well done with the engine - for the exhaust - that's the problem with a flexi section. It really needs to be 'solid' - so you can push it up into place with a jack - and then fit the clamp.

You'll need a larger diameter system to match the manifold......... Hope Dad's up for that too!

oh pop-sickles,

not to keen on the idea of a larger bore exhaust, sounds like a tank already and i don't want it to sound any louder

Doesn't need to be loud - fit two silencers!
