Some time ago i bought this pair of 1 1/8 Su Carbs for my frogeye. I never fitted them because the carbs didnt seem to be a handed pair.
Any idea what they are off??
Dave
If not for an A Series, most likely for a side valve Ford 8 or 10 HP engine (993 or 1172 cc). Aquaplane were one of 'the' suppliers in the 60's, and are still going. Are the carbs inclined or completely horizontal?
If it is Ford, you should get a very (very) good price on eBay ~£200 or probably more?
The manifold is still available from Aquaplane for £74 + VAT and the carbs for £230 + VAT, but they are the more 'modern' HS2, not the period H1 (1 1/8") that you have!! Here's the link to their site:
I will agree with that, a pair of H1 SUs on a Ford Aquaplane side valve manifold. Incidentaly the port spacings are the same as the Series MM side valve so they will also fit the Minor s/v engine.

I tried the manifold on an old 948 A series head and it fits. Does that mean that this is from a BMC rather than a Ford or did they have similar sized heads.

Oooooooooooh well - maybe a fancy 'upgrade' manifold for a Frog-eye right enough! The manifold looks too long in the earlier pictures - and in that last picture - hard to see - is it bolted between the two inlet ports on the head ?
Ah yes - hadn't noticed that link. Apologies Louise! They got away with 'murder' in the days of the Mk1 Mini! The main advantage these carbs would give is the elimination of the hot-spot in the combined inlet/exhaust manifold. The carbs are too small for any 'real' power gain.
That's a relief! I was beginning to think that a 'glitch' on the board had somehow made my post invisible to others so was just about to get on to admin to complain
Inclined carbs = A-Series and horizontal = Ford, I think. So very likely for an 850 Mini in the early '60s, and maybe have been quite desirable then, but with today's knowledge probably not so much.
If the manifold has 6in port centres then it will fit an A Series, 6.5 in will fit a Morris or Ford s/v although the ports may need to be squared off for the Series MM.
The right side of the photos are cut off on my screen, is it just me or do others have this problem?
In the early pictures - the carbs looked (to me) to be staright - not angled. But the later pics on the head clearly show they are angled, but not enough to suit a Mini! I suspect it's an early upgrade for the Minor/A30 - probably aimed at the power-shy 803 cc engine!
