Morris Minor Day

Post by IaininTenbury »

Hi all,
Found this badge in a collection of spares I bought and wondered when National Morris Minor Day was? I've never heard of it. Badge is the same format as the Club grill badge and I'm guessing is pre 1989 (when I joined) as I don't remember it.Image

As I know, because I have also one , and I tried to know the date and what I get it is, a St. Valentine day's is the morris minor's day.
If is right or wrong I dont know but that was the explanation I get.

It was a rally badge at one of the National Rallies at Weston Park, possibly 40th Anniversary in 1988.
There is a list of National Rallies somewhere on the message board.

Carlos - Valentines day was "I love my Morris Minor" day, as stated in your earlier thread: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=29339

I don't think that this is the same as "Morris Minor Day"?

Ah, Weston Park - before my time (if that makes sense!) First National I went to was Knebworth in 89 or 90 I think.
I did wonder if it was a National Rally thing, or if National Morris Minor Day was some other special event lost in the mists of time....

One of us must be wrong, Mine was a calculated guess. If you can be bothered to search the message board there was a topic listing all the National Rallies. It may have been a couple of years ago.

Found it.
General Discussion, Past National Rallies, Dec. 2008.
It was not 1988 as I have a rally plaque for that year so you may be right

1986? I was still at school then, and the only Morris Minor exposure I had was the art teacher's grotty trafalger blue 4 dr. Funny how you remember these things... :)

Weston Park must have been a bit repetitive from 1983 to 88. I only went to two of them, 1988 and the Morris Minor day.
I am sure that if everyone could find a Weston Park rally plaque or two then by a process of elimination we could find out which year the Morris Minor day badge was issued.
I have a 1988 plaque so it was not that year.

Somewhere i have the window sticker that was produced in the same design to commemorate it and it has the date including the year on it and i'm sure its 1986. I will try and dig it out from that safe place i put it all those years ago!
I'm sure a Minor Matters of that age would have the relevant details in, but i don't have any here that old!

I've just been looking out my Minor Matters from the early days & can confirm that National Morris Minor Day was Weston Park in 1986 to celebrate 10 years of the MMOC - this was also my first National Rally.

St Georges day is April 23rd.
There is a campaign to have this made a bank holiday.
Perhaps combine the two.
