marina hubs(HELP)

The two studs 'scale' as exactly the same size in the picture. Could you check the measurement again ? As others have said they just pulled them into the hub without any machining - it does sugest they are the same size - just slightly different spine arrangement.

I measured the rusty one 3 times going back to zero each time to ensure my readings were correct.. they differed by 0.05mm across my three readings if i recollect..not enough to make that much a difference any way they are now all back in the garage and it is peeing down here in aldershot so I will try and have a look tomorrow.

not to open another can of worms.I can fit my 5 spoke wheel without spacers but the 6 spokes are slightly different where the center cap would go.

i would have thought that the rears would be ok and not need spacers. are the montego studs quite similar in design being the disc bolts to the hub thus the same problem of having to use a 10mm spacer or a die run down the shank so no bottoming happens or are they of design of hub bolts to disc like the marina

i fitted my mgf studs for the front wheels today. they went in easy, i put a bit of lube on then just pulled them through with a couple of large nuts as spacers and use a spare wheel nut. i was suprised how easy it was. they just miss the uprights by a fag paper!!!!! would it be best to fit a spacer? if so how thick? thanks

I would worry about the studs going in so easily! Hope they don't 'spin' when you go to tighten. Due to flex etc - I would put at least a 1/8" spacer on - 1/4" would be better, but depends if the studs are long enough to still get a full nut length on when tightened up.

thanks for that. when i said , they went in easy, i did have to use quite a bit of force. i meant it was easy to do and no machining needed.

hi guys,i have marina van hubs which are 4.5" PDC on my Morris minor so have got some Volvo s40 wheel (4.5" pdc) but i am unsure what to do,should i use studs or nuts? i have no studs or nuts so need 16 of either,i could do with keeping the cost down if i can because i have so much more to do.but lets put it another way i will pay as much as i need to as i don't want my wheels falling off!!!! what do you think?

My vote for studs AND nuts!! If the hubs were threaded - you could use screws I suppose. But AMAZED to hear Vovo wheels are 4.5" pcd - are you sure ?

well i say 4.5" but they are 114.3mm so i don't see a problem?i have a list of a load's of car's that are 114.3mm but the Volvo wheels looked good and are cheap,they are bbs copies the were fitted standard to s40's from 1996 to 2000.if i fit nuts on my studs i couldn't use Volvo one's as the threads are different?aren't they? and i cant fined marina nuts at all and even if i could would they fit the Volvo wheels ok?

Sorry - but I still find it hard to believe that Volvo made wheels at 114.3mm PCD - they would surely use a 'perfect' metric size ? Have you measured the wheels accurately - or do you have data that shows that size ? And most modern cars use screw in bolts to secure the wheels, which are almost all aligned accurately by the hole in the centre of the wheel - so you would need to have the hubs tapped out to the correct size to take the Volvo bolts, and machined to locate the wheel centre.

the volvo S40 pcd are 114mm i would not wish to comment on the difference..

but if you use the marina studs i would be looking to use sleeve nuts as i would have thought the volvo bolts to be larger than the marina ones. this will ensure that the wheels are held tightly in place or replace the marina studs with a different stud such as metro / mgf and get a set of alloy wheel nuts.

had a go at the rear hubs am i missing somthing? using a puller, it doesnt want to move. i have removed the nut and washer. bolted the puller on but !!!!! what else can i do? HELP

with the hub puller done up tight poor a kettle of boiling water on to the hub, it might be enough to work, however i had to use a hydraulic puller + boiling water to get my pair off as the last person had used something like thread lock on them.. but he was a complete and utter cowboy.

when i did it a few years ago ( on a different axle), i put the puller on, pulled it up and tapped the hub with a hammer and it came apart.. i just assumed you had tried that..

Are these Minor hubs - or Marina van hubs ? If the Volvo wheels are 114mm PCD - then I can see that the 0.3 mm (12 thou!) difference to 4.5" PCD is not exactly significant! But do consider that they should probably be centred on the hubs. If you go the 'bolt' route - be sure the hub is thick enough to take a good thread. A bolt should screw into metal 1.5 X diam of the bolt. So - a 12mm bolt would need 18mm thick hub to be sure of a good thread grip.
