Trackers vs Phones

'ello folks,

So my minor is starting to look awfully good, and wheras before I was more or less reliant on your traditional hidden switch and a cheapie krookloc (copy) - I'm now slightly more desirous of means of making sure the minor doesn't go walkies. Whereas before she'd've been opportunistic thieves, when she comes back she's actually going to be shiny, and might be a bit more tempting.

So.

Has anyone got experience of either the tracker systems, or the tracking-a-hidden-phone system?

I'm happy to have either, really. Although obviously the cheapness of mounting a cheap phone & charger in the car appeals.

Someone once suggested to me that if leaving the car for a while you could whip the coil to dizzy lead off, which would pretty much foil any prospective thief as it would be pretty unlikely that they'd have a spare HT lead in the pocket.That's only really practical for long periods of time though and maybe you want a permanent means of security.
I reckon a well hidden switch would be pretty effective. My Dad's Landy has it disguised as some sort of heater switch alongside the other switches, I thought that was a rather good idea

I think the point here is IF it was to go walkabouts, having the means to find out WHERE it has gone

Practical Performance Car Magazine did an article on the mobile phone option a few months ago. There verdict was that in a town/city were there are plenty of transmitters & mobile signals are strong finding the car was possible but in rural environments it was almost inpossible. There was a website that you had to log onto and pay a fee and they told you were the phone signal was within a certain radius.

A proper tracker maybe your best best given all the time, effort & money at least if your car was taken the BiB would have a chance of locating it. Once you have repoted it stolen and had the tracker activated. Also a new lock set might be a good investment.

Be sensible be aware of where you are parking your car, always lock your car and check, close windows and don't leave valuables on show. Also don't leave your keys were someone can pick them up e.g. by fishing through your letter box. I would also buy some kind of good quality visual detterent like a steering wheel lock and I think Roys secret switch is a good idea and something that would fox most opportunists.

Does anyone have any recommendation for tracker companies? Most of the ones I've found only seem to do fleet stuff. I did find one that did a buy-and-forget type option, but I can't find it again now
