Re: 1275 head
Yes - I guess it will be the 940 head. If you do a search on here you'll find all you need to know about checking for valve clearance etc. Remember to use a 1275 head gasket also....

Re: 1275 head
just out of intrest will a 295 head fit on a 1275?
58HP at the wheels and 75 HP at the flywheel
Re: 1275 head
It should do but you will have to do some work on a 295 to restore the compression ratio to something sensible....

Re: 1275 head
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! A 295 head is ONLY for small bore engines - so 848/948/997/998/1098 ONLY.

Re: 1275 head
people have used 295 heads on large bore A-series, but it's really not worth the effort, as 940 heads are readily available, do a good job and are much cheaper

Re: 1275 head
I agree it would be 'feasible' - but a very retrograde step to go down on valve size and port dimensions! And since the chambers are relatively huge - the CR would be desperately low!

Re: 1275 head
The question was "will it fit".....
I didn't recommend doing so

Ok Right - Yes
It 'will' fit if you really want to strangle the performance - but I have never heard of anyone doing so!

Re: 1275 head
If youve got a 295 head flog it on fleabay they go for really good money more than enough to buy a 940
Re: 1275 head
Should buy quite a few - at this price! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT - and -it's reddish! BUT - look at his postage cost! So either negotiate better postage (it's only ~ £15 by Special Parcels) - or arrange to collect.

Re: 1275 head
Still thinking about this colour business- that one is proclaiming unleaded/ late Metro. Did Rover change the colour to signify the unleaded shift maybe? (green might have been more appropriate, but confusing!)bmcecosse wrote:Should buy quite a few - at this price! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT - and -it's reddish! Re: 1275 head
Not that I am aware of! At least on a 1275 head you can see where seats have been pressed in - on the unleaded heads. On the 998 heads - no such thing! They just fitted harder valves - and said it was 'unleaded' !!

Re: 1275 head
I know nothing about different number heads, 295, 940 etc. How do you identify which head is which, is there a casting number? Is there a table of different heads and what fits which engine?
Just trying to improve my knowledge.

Re: 1275 head
This short list was posted previously by someone (sorry can't remember who now)
12g202 is the standard 1098 head (and mini cooper 997)
12g295 is the mini cooper 998 and midget 1098 head with larger inlet valves and improved porting
12g206 is half way between the 2
CAM4810 is a small bore (998) head off A+ metro or mini, some are unleaded but they have small valves and poor porting
12g940 is the 1275 head as fitted to all 1275s except some cooper S's which have special heads. Avaliable with 2 valves sizes, the later unleaded ones ('90 on I believe) are all small valved.
The number is cast into the head (rocker side obviously)

Re: 1275 head
thanks for the response,
i have a 295 head off a 1098 midget, the inlet/exhaust ports from the head are larger than that of my 1275 engine. probly a combo of the 1275 being coked up and the 295 being ported. i was just wondering if it would be useful as the guy at minispeed offerd me £50 for it straight away after taking one look at it (is in a pretty sorry state atm) and the fact that it came off my uncle's 1098 midget that had a 731 cam, lightend and balenced flywheel ect revved to 7000rpm
