ordering bits for my "planned" engine rebuild, however, how do i know how many piston rings my moggy has. has a standard 1098 engine.
esm dosent give options of rings, just std and over bored, WHILST bullmotif gives the option of 4 or 5 rings per piston.
so, ideas on a postcard please

Pull a piston out and see? It's the only way. You need to inspect ALL the pistons anyway - to see if they are in good enough condition to be worth fitting new rings. And are the bores 'unworn' ? Any ridge at the top means a re-bore and new pistons. Considering the cost of new rings - I have to say it's dubious if fitting new rings is worthwhile. New pistons and a rebore will make it perfect - new rings may only 'impove' matters - and maybe only last ~ 10,000 miles ? You need to do a cost/benefit analysis - and decide.
