Tyre Size and Suppliers

Post by DuncanBeaumont »

I need some new tyres. The present tyres are 145 x 14 76S.

Where can I buy these?

Can I go up to 155 x 15 - will they fit onto standard wheels and hubs? Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier in Surrey?

Errr -NO! 15 " tyres won't fit on 14" rims. But - assuming you meant 155 x 14 - then YES - that's what many of us use. Inflate to 30 psi - maybe a bit more if carrying a 'load'. All the usual suspects will supply - sometimes they have 'deals' - so worth checking around. I think Tom Roy had a 'deal' going recently - may still be active. Obviously carriage is expensive - so best if you can find a supplier near enough so you can collect! Take care when fitting them - to not stretch/damage the bead - it is possible (and better!) to NOT use a tyre lever when fitting new tyres - just work them on with your thumbs -perhaps some gentle assistance from a rubber mallet. They slip on easily enough if you wipe the beads with Swarfega first!

bull motif have a special offer of 4 toyos 155 x 14 for 108 +vat including postage.. very happy with cost and firmness of side wall.. getting them fitted tomorrow. I did a few years buy a set of 145 x 14 bridgestones the worst tyre ever ( in my opinon ) the side wall is so soft the car wobbles and hitting a bump in the road made the car feel like it was bouncing for the next mile

http://www.northhantstyres.com might be worth a look also, they do lots of white wall and 'classic' tyres, you can probably get cheaper elsewhere, but could be useful if you want something in particular
