Top suspension pivots

Evenin all, I was just working at my Morris and this caught my eye and I don't know why I haven't picked up on it when building up the suspension. The top pivot pin has a nut on the back which is locked with a tab washer and a castellated nut on the front which should have a split pin going through a hole in the pin to stop it falling off. I had it apart and the pins I have have no hole for a split pin ( I cleaned it and it isn't filled with muck/grease). Is there a nyloc nut I can buy for this or should I use some sort of lock washer.

I just have these vague longings of booking an MOT in the nearish future and think that if the tester sees a castellated nut they will also expect to see a split pin?

I had an MOT failure for the same reason and asked if I cold fit a nyloc nut. My tester said a firm "NO" as the split pin is a mechanical locking device whereas the nyloc nut isn't. Incidentally, I couldn't find the hole for the split pin either - but it was there after much wire brushing and scraping. I had to drill the old pin out as it was virtually welded into the hole and extremely difficult to see...

Are they new pins ? I haven't seen any without holes before. But - surely an electric drill gun and a suitable 'bit' will soon solve the problem ??

I'm sure the holes will be there - they are just hiding!

Jeff I've just rebuilt mine and the pivot pins came complete with new castillated nut and split pin

How would a tester know that a nyloc nut was not original fitment if you fitted one I wonder?
Come to that if a mechanical arrangement is ok can you fit 2 locking nuts instead of a splitpin - i.e. to front of the tie rods?

Tester would have no idea -nor would he care, as long as it was secure. Two nuts if you wish - is there room ?
